Unlike heat based technology, the Dermapen uses very fine needles to promote tissue stimulation, typically used on scarring. Once scars are broken, new collagen will help soften out topical visible scars.

What is a Dermapen 4 Treatment?

The Dermapen 4 is a vibrational stamping device; a new technology that is an alternative to previous treatments using a manual handheld roller. The microneedles create tiny puncture wounds in the top layer of skin to generate new healthy skin cells.

The Dermapen can be used on any skin colour and skin type since heat is not being used.
As previously mentioned, the Dermapen can reduce the visibility of scars but also can aid in:

  • Tissue regeneration,
  • Collagen induction therapy,
  • Fine lines and wrinkles,
  • Stretch marks,
  • Skin tightening,
  • Hair loss therapy, and many other conditions

How is the procedure performed and when will I see results?

Firstly, the skin is cleaned and sterilised. Also, to ensure your comfort, the skin is numbed for a pain free treatment. The tip will glide over your skin creating stimulating channels; an even flushing is the best indication for a perfect medical treatment.

The treatment usually takes around 90 minutes in total and you will see results instantly. Over the next few weeks, collagen will continue to grow and your skin will improve over six to twelve months.

For scars and acne scar reduction, we recommend having several treatments, four weeks apart.

Post treatment care

Inflammation of the skin post treatment is extremely short and fades significantly within hours; from redness to pinkish that may last from 12 to 48 hours on average.

In order to reduce redness, we recommend topical healing minerals and hyaluronic acid to help hydrate the skin. Post treatment, your skin will become very dry, so we recommend a soothing cleanser to clean and an extra hydrating moisturiser to rehydrate, if needed. Zinc sun protection is also recommended.

Can you increase results at home?

There are homecare roller systems available to help stimulate the skin and help penetrate ingredients deeper into it. This additional home treatment even once a week will promote results.

Professional Dermapen Therapy – Soften Visible Scars

Dermapen is a new technology that was created as an alternative for treatments that use manual handheld rollers. It contains microneedles that work to create small puncture wounds in the top layer of the skin. This process is administered to generate healthy, new skin cells. The best part is – the Dermapen can be used on any skin type or skin colour, as it does not involve the use of heat!

Dermapen can reduce the visibility of scars, fine lines, wrinkles, and stretch marks. It can also aid in tissue regeneration, skin tightening, hair loss therapy, collagen induction therapy, and other similar conditions. This procedure is usually performed over 90 minutes – and the results are seen instantly. Over the few weeks following your procedure, collagen continues to grow, and your skin continues to improve over six to twelve months. If you are focusing on the reduction of acne scars or other scars, then we recommend undergoing a few treatments that are four weeks apart.

Before your procedure, your skin will be sterilised and cleaned. To maximise your comfort, your skin will also be numbed, resulting in pain-free treatment. The tip of the Dermapen will skim over your skin surface to stimulate channels.

To increase your results at home, there are home roller systems available for your use. These will help penetrate ingredients deeper into your skin and will help further stimulate it. This additional treatment will promote results, even if you only conduct it once a week.

A skin analysis is usually not needed, as the Dermapen works on all skin types. However, if you have pre-existing skin conditions or skin concerns, it is recommended to get one just in case – or consult your dermatologist. A skin analysis will also indicate what your skin type is if you don’t already know, which can help you figure out how many Dermapen treatments you’ll need.

Dermapen treatment VS laser skin or laser hair treatments and pigmentation removal treatments

If you’re considering Dermapen treatments, you also may be looking into other similar cosmetic treatments or beauty treatments – but how do you decide which is best for you? Before making your decision, it’s best to first consider what results you’re looking for and the risks and benefits that come with each treatment.

Laser hair treatments work to quickly, reliably and permanently remove hair in unwanted areas. They also reduce ingrown hairs by using concentrated light to target hair follicles. Laser skin treatments, such as laser skin rejuvenation, work as a collagen stimulant and also improve the appearance of wrinkles, enlarged pores, fine lines, and severe acne scars.

Pigmentation removal treatments include chemical skin peels, microdermabrasion, face acids, lightening creams, laser pigmentation removal, and many other options. Laser pigmentation removal treatments can be quite effective in reducing the appearance of pigmentation, age spots (or other signs of skin ageing), and freckles.

The laser only targets the pigmented area of the skin, which then absorbs the light. This means that the surrounding skin isn’t damaged. Though uncommon, some of the risks associated with laser treatments include crusting, blistering, scarring, and skin texture changes. They also include excessive hair growth – a rare side effect that can occur specifically on darker skin. Some also believe that the development of skin cancer is associated with laser treatments – however, no evidence indicating this has been found.

Microneedling is another popular procedure. The benefits of microneedling treatments include reducing the appearance of wrinkles, lines, and treating scars, sun damage, enlarged pores, stretch marks, and the appearance of rosacea. Microneedling works by pricking the skin with small needles causing small wounds at needle depth that promote your body’s production of collagen and elastin. Other growth factors can also be used to promote the production and formation of these. Dermapen therapy is also a type of skin needling treatment. Most skin needling treatments come with similar side effects, including redness, swelling, and dryness.

Other treatments such as tattoo removal and cosmetic injections

There is a wide range of other laser treatments apart from those for hair and skin, such as the laser tattoo removal procedure. The laser cosmetic tattoo removal treatment is done using a Q-switched laser. This laser sends out energy in a strong pulse, and, in turn, this energy pulse heats the tattoo ink in your skin so that it can be dissolved.

Several laser treatments are required before the tattoo laser treatment is complete. Also, keep in mind that, while your tattoo can be lightened, it cannot be completely removed and may produce faint scars. Side effects of tattoo laser removal include swelling, frosting, blistering, itching, scabbing, and hyperpigmentation (where the treated area is darker than the skin surrounding it) or hypopigmentation (where the treated area is lighter than the skin surrounding it).

Fibroblast plasma therapy is another rejuvenation treatment, specifically for skin tightening (radiofrequency treatments can also sometimes help in this area), helping to eliminate sagging skin, stretch marks, and scarring. It can also be quite effective for acne treatments; laser genesis can also sometimes work for acne. Fibroblast is performed using a fibroblast plasma pen that works to lift the skin by shortening and shrinking the skin fibres. The plasma pen used produces a temporary and tiny dot on the skin that instantly stimulates skin tightening and Fibroblast activation. The term ‘fibroblast’ refers to the cells that carry collagen that is then used to repair the skin.

Platelet-rich plasma can also be used to accelerate the body’s production of collagen. As a healing response, your skin may become swollen. Possible side effects include pain, hyperpigmentation, redness, and in some cases, sagging skin, UV sensitivity, skin peeling, and crusting.

You may also be interested in cosmetic injections, such as wrinkle relaxants, antiwrinkle injections, and lip fillers. Antiwrinkle injections work by injecting a relaxing muscle agent that smooths the outer layer of skin and reduces the appearance of any lines. Wrinkle relaxants, however, work by temporarily freezing your facial muscles. Lip fillers work by replacing lost fat and collagen, lasting for about 6 months to a year.

Keep in mind that cosmetic injections may have such side effects as bruising, swelling, redness, itching and pain. Sometimes, lumps, bumps, and discolouration may also develop. Prolonged use of injections may also weaken the face muscles. Always consider these side effects for any cosmetic injection or procedure before booking one.
